The Belle-Isle regiment is the heir of the fimarcon dragoons and the ancestor of the second hunter regiment. In 1706, Belle-Isle-dragons surprised a corps of three regiments of cuirassiers and took more than 300 prisoners, including 27 officers at the Battle of Calcinato.
