Object description :

"A Louis XIV Viscera Box In Turquin Blue Marble Late 17th- Early 18th Century."
Viscera box in turquin blue marble, Louis XIV period. Viscera box in turquin blue marble, commonly called Bardiglio capella; marble whose exploitation came from the Carrara basin. Our curved oval-shaped box with flat lateral recesses opens at the top with a slightly overflowing flat lid where a corbin beak runs on its face and sides. Its articulation is ensured by multi-lobed hinges in line with the keyhole. On either side of the tank, two inverted pyramidal grips with a flat base made it easier to grip. The two-cell movement of the tank lets you see the inner compartment of the box; it consists of two juxtaposed cylindrical basins, where the lead receptacles devoted to the preservation of the viscera were once housed. The first to have separately buried certain organs of the body are the Egyptians. Later, and especially during the Renaissance, monuments were erected for certain organs of important people. This arrangement was perpetuated in the 17th and 18th centuries and our beautiful box is representative of this custom. It should be noted an old restoration of the lid. Dimensions: length 31.7cm, depth 16.5cm and 17.2 in height.
