(difficult to establish) Dimensions 36 cm x 25 cm at sight without frame represents a street scene in a district of London in the 19th century with a view of the cathedral St. Paul's of London, Cathedral of the Diocese of London, of the Church of England which is located in the City of London, the historic heart of the city which has today become the main London business district Bio Thomas Miles Richardson Senior ( 1784-1848) was an English landscape painter. He was born in Newcastle on 15 May 1784. His father, George Richardson (died 1806) was the master of St. Andrew's Grammar School, Newcastle; Moses Aaron Richardson was a younger brother. Richardson was first apprenticed to an engraver, then to a cabinetmaker, which he left to set up on his own. After five years of cabinetmaking, he became a teacher, and from 1806 to 1813 he held the position his father had held in high school. Then he decided to adopt an artistic career, and soon acquired a reputation as a landscape painter. He worked primarily in watercolor and found most of his subjects in the landscapes of the Scottish Borders and Highlands, although later in life he traveled as far afield as Italy and Switzerland. He died in Newcastle on March 7, 1848, leaving a widow and a large family, six of whom (George Richardson, Edward Richardson 1810-1874, Thomas Miles Richardson Jr.1813-1890, Henry Burdon Richardson, Charles Richardson and John Isaac Richardson) followed father's occupation. The first notable image was a 'View of Newcastle from Gateshead Fell', which was purchased by the Newcastle Company. In 1816 he began to illustrate with aquatints his brother's "Collection of Armorial Bearings…in St. Andrew's Chapel, Newcastle-upon-Tyne", which was published in 1818 and followed in 1820 by a larger work important dealing with the Church of St. Nicholas, and also illustrated by Richardson. In 1833 and 1834 he worked on a book on "English and Scottish border castles", which he illustrated with mezzotints. These publications remained unfinished. Richardson became well known as a contributor to London exhibitions from 1818, when he sent his first picture to the Royal Academy, and was elected a Fellow of the New Watercolor Society. His work has been represented in public galleries in South Kensington, Dublin and Liverpool.
