"Rare Pocket Watch Modernista, Jump Hour"
Very Rare Pocket Watch with jumping hours marked "Modernista" circa 1905."Modernista" was a trademark registered by Courvoisier Frères in La Chaux de Fonds in 1903.
For this watch Courvoisier uses a patent (27838) by Gabriel Lopez Mantares filed on May 5 1903.
The watch that is the subject of the invention indicates the time by means of a disk which moves in rotation under an opening in the dial, while the minutes are indicated by a hand describing an arc of a circle which suddenly returns to zero when she reaches the sixtieth minute.
This type of watch was also made for the South American market to advertise famous cigar brands (Cigarillos excelsior, Picard).
Nickel movement with 15-jewel lever escapement, patent 27838". In working order.
Finely engraved gilt metal dial, signed GM (Gabriel Mantares). Mineral glass.
Gilt metal Guilloché case with "Modernista Patent" inscription, diameter 50 mm. Very good condition.
