"Monsieur Théodore Lespinasse excels in translating the rather melancholy poetry of our Lyon countryside..." It is in these terms that in its edition of February 4, 1906 "Le pass-temps et le parterre", a Lyonnais newspaper aimed at art lovers describes the talent of our artist. He participated in January of this year 1906 at the Salon des Artistes Lyonnais. Our pair of oils on canvas represents a bucolic landscape in the valley with for one a stone house and in the background, a rock which overhangs the valley, perhaps the Roche de Vergisson in Saône et Loire. He exhibited his landscapes in Lyon in 1885 as well as at the Salon of French artists in Paris. They are highlighted by their magnificent frame in wood and gilded stucco decorated with foliage and rosettes in very pronounced relief. Signed lower left for one and lower right for the other and dated 1906. Dimensions: Chassis: 43 cm x 65 cm Frames: 59 cm x 80 cm Each of the canvases and their frame are original, in very good condition and without any restoration.
