Object description :

"Large Marble From The XIX Eme Century: The Venus In The Bath Or The Bather After Allegrain"
Large marble from the Napoleon III period representing the "Venus in the bath", also called "the Bather" after Christophe-Gabriel Allegrain.
from the 1767 original given by the king to Madame du Barry and originally commissioned by the Marquis de Marigny.
this beautiful st bather preserved today in the Louvre Museum.
our marble here is of large size, it is of good quality and of great whiteness.
the sculptor took some liberties with the original in the hairstyle and in the base.
indeed the hairstyle here is inspired more by models of Renaissance sculptures in the manner of Giambologna.
it is the same for the base which here is made up of a "cobblestone" or heap of small rocks, a type of base that was encountered mainly in Italy from the Renaissance.
despite these few liberties our sculpture is faithful to the original of Allegrain.
the details are of great finesse, in the face, the hairstyle, the hands, the drapery etc...
we can clearly see the eyelids of Venus. our marble is of very good quality, the sculptor was able to represent a very beautiful woman's body, with a voluptuous and carnal aspect, the flesh is chubby and this work exudes a lot of sensuality.
a very beautiful, very decorative white marble sculpture taking up a great classical theme. dimensions: height 71 cm, 23 cm in diameter at the base approximately.
