Old collection containing a hundred engravings. Plates drawn by Jacques de Seve (1742-1788) and engraved by Bernard Direxit (1731 - 1794) Botanical plates that can be perfectly framed. They measure 31cm x 21cm Good condition Benard's journey remained unknown for a long time: his origins and his end of life were reconstructed in 2019 by researchers. Specialized in the technique of the chisel, Benard is mainly renowned for having provided a large quantity of plates to the Encyclopedia of Diderot and d'Alembert, from the fourth volume in 1754. He directed the engraving of the Suite of the collection of plates on the sciences, the liberal arts and the mechanical arts (Planches, Supplement, 1777), worked on the Geneva edition of the Encyclopédie, of which he also directed the engraving, and on that of the Methodical Encyclopédie which, appearing from of 1782, is “the last and most important of the French encyclopedias of the 18th century”.
