Alabaster is a soft natural stone that is also translucent. It allows light to pass through, which gives the sculptures their special aura.
History of the work
Repetition of the statuette from the Salon of 1757, no. 131Nymph going down to the bath. Collection of Madame Du Barry (1743-1793) in Louveciennes (inv. no. M. 1846). Revolutionary seizure, 10 January 1794. Inventoried in 1824 at the Grand Trianon in Versailles. Entered the Louvre before 1855.
