"Rare Lady's Desk In Precious Wood, Louis XV Style, Napoleon III Period - 1850"
Magnificent Desk in Amaranth and Speckled Maple, benefiting from a lid in the shape of an ogee, with entourage and angles in amaranth and the middle in Speckled Maple. When opened, it engages a mechanism that slides the writing part forward. This flap is equipped with a lock accompanied by its brass key in working order. Once locked, a mechanism condemns the two drawers present in the upper part of this desk. Once the flap is open we discover an interior part in speckled maple. The writing part is lined with green leather embellished with a golden sticker. Above, we discover three identical drawers also in speckled maple and amaranth pull buttons. This exceptional desk has a top made in the same spirit as the flap and rests on four legs in solid speckled maple decorated with a finely carved acanthus leaf at the top. This decoration is embellished in the center with a flat part in amaranth, which is also found on the front of the foot. On each side, we note the presence of a groove made in the wood. This Louis XV style desk has a belt drawer made of speckled maple surrounded by amaranth and beautiful moldings. The drawer interiors, sides and bottom, are in solid mahogany. The sides are made up of three parts of the same composition. The perfectly finished back in the same wood species makes it a superb middle desk. Antique dealer's comment: This Napoleon III period desk is very rare for the quality of its precious woods and its exceptional design, certainly made by a great Parisian cabinetmaker despite its absence of a signature.
