Magnificent acrylic resin sculpture "The Ride" by Frederick Hart (1943-1999). Signed, dated 1990 and numbered 208/355. Dimensions: H 41 x W 48 x D 18 cm Hart came to public and critical attention for his Creation sculptures on the west facade of Washington National Cathedral. The cathedral, located in Washington, DC, is the sixth largest Gothic-style cathedral in the world. One of Washington, D.C.'s most-visited landmarks is the heroic bronze statue of Frederick Hart, Three Soldiers, located at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, commissioned by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. Several busts made by Hart are installed in the Senate American. Hart was the first to use transparent acrylic resins to create evocative sculptures in which one sculpture sits inside another, creating magical suggestions of light and transparency. In 1997, Hart donated his work The Cross of the Millennium to Pope John Paul II in a private ceremony at the Vatican. Hart received the National Medal of Arts, the highest honor given by the United States government in the field of art.
