Various types of stone: agate, lapis lazuli, giallo antico, nefrite and gold leaf.
Italy, 16th or 17th century

This hard stone pediment is presented in a blackened wooden frame with an ormolu socket. The beauty of this work is enhanced by the gold leaf behind the central agate medallion, which reflects the colour of the gold through transparency.
