"David II Teniers (1610-1690) (attributed To) - Village Scene With A Pig"
Oil on wood transposed on panel Monogram lower middle Dtf Dimensions: 34.5 x 24.5 cm David Teniers illustrates the great Flemish tradition of the genre scene. It depicts the occupations of simple people in Flanders during the first half of the 17th century. Our painting describes a peaceful peasant world where two characters meet to start a discussion whose only witness is a free-roaming pig feeding on leftovers thrown into its trough. We are close to the caricature of which Adrian Brouwer, his eldest, is the perfect representative. On his death in 1638, Teniers abandoned the anecdotal and earthy genre to move towards a more refined, delicate and spirited style. We date this painting to the period before 1638.
