"Oil On Canvas Representative Santa Apollonia, Umbria XVIIth Century 150cm Hx 64cm"
Beautiful oil on canvas depicting Saint Apollonia of Alexandria, Christian martyr venerated by the Catholic and Orthodox Church as a saint Tradition has it that her teeth were pulled from her mouth and for this reason she is considered the patroness of dentists and dental technicians. The painter decided to fully represent this saint with a rare iconography and stylistically he seems to want to look nostalgically at the representations of Umbrian Tuscany of the early '500 and Perugia purism.
