"Fez Belt In Brocatelle And Brocade Lined With Rouennerie - Morocco Late 18th Or Early 19th"
Late 18th early 19th century Morocco Rare example of a very early Fez wedding belt! Provenance of a famous French collection which will be transmitted to the buyer and which was published in the 1970s. Woven on a hand loom it has four Hispano-Moorish decorations including two brocades with gold thread and silver thread. In the extremities, eight-pointed star "seal of Solomon" and hand "Khamsa" commonly hand of Fatima, intended to remove the evil eye! It is lined with a Siamese woven Indigo with small checks from the end of the 18th century, like the oldest belts listed. Contrary to what is usually said, the oldest belts are not half-belts because they were much narrower than at the beginning of the 20th century. A few pulled threads in the brocade, missing fringes at one end, otherwise very good structural condition. Dimensions: 16 cm wide by 258 cm long. This belt comes from a set of 12 pieces that decorated a castle in the South West of France in the Bordeaux region. Le Collectionneur was published in decoration magazines of the 1970s, associated with French 18th century. He published a major work which is still a reference today and which will be communicated to the buyer. The other belts will be put on sale one by one but it is possible to acquire the entire collection on request.
