"George I Tazza ,1714 London, Brittania Silver"
Extremely rare emblazoned tazza from the George I period, London 1714 in brittania silver. The English call this kind of plate "tazza". They make their appearance in the second half of the seventeenth century and are used to present fruit and desserts on the beautiful tables. This one is nicely engraved with a period alliance coat of arms. During the Queen Anne period the regulatory title of silver is raised to a grade of 950% called Britannia silver. Under George I, the 925% silver or "sterling" standard will be reinstated as it still is today. Our tazza is still executed in Brittania silver, the title mark is a lion's head rather than the lion passant we know today.
