Talavera Earthenware Salt Shaker - Late 17th Century flag

Object description :

"Talavera Earthenware Salt Shaker - Late 17th Century"
This small salt cellar, or spice container, in earthenware was produced in Spain in the important earthenware production center of Talavera at the end of the 17th century. Its function is insinuated by the three holes on the upper face allowing to receive salt, or spices. Regarding its triangular shape and its colors, yellow and green, they are characteristic of pieces from this region at that time. Each of the three faces is enhanced by the presence of a small yellow mascaron with a lion's head surrounded by two plant mounds.
