The healing of the servant of the Roman centurion. Gospels of Saint Matthew (8.5-13) and Saint Luke (7.1-10). Jesus preparing to cross a river or having crossed it meets a Roman centurion, pagan, to whom he announces the healing of his servant. Beautiful animated scene in a landscape and beautiful architectures. Follower of Gillis Van Coninxloo, (a vignette attributes this painting to him) landscape painter, born in Antwerp in 1544 and died in Amsterdam in 1607; Oil on canvas, formerly re-lined. Late sixteenth, early seventeenth century.
