Rare Kamphoeng Phet style Buddha with dark patina and old traces of gilding.
The Buddha is represented seated cross-legged on a high plinth in the sattvaparyanka position, the right leg resting on the left leg. Both hands are placed in his lap in a meditation position (dhyana mudra), the back of the right hand resting on the palm of the left hand. He is dressed in the samgathi, the monastic habit, leaving the right shoulder uncovered, a piece of the cloth placed on the left shoulder and descending in a straight line on the navel. The face characteristic of the style of Kamphang Phaet and echoing that of neighboring Sukhothai, is nevertheless distinguished from the latter by a clearer face. Thus, the large almond-shaped eyes with heavy closed lids are surmounted by perfectly curved eyebrows forming a continuous line above the bridge of the nose. The latter, long and fine, has dilated nostrils overhanging a mouth with fleshy lips which are reminiscent of the stylistic influences of its Khmer neighbor. The skull covered with a multitude of small pimples receives a large cranial protuberance (usnisà) from which emanates a rasmi in the shape of a lotus bud, the ears with long distended lobes symbolizing the royal origin of the Buddha.
On each side of the base, we will note the presence of two small orifices which were originally to receive two worshipers who have now disappeared.
