Object description :

"Adoration Of The Magi - Oil Painting On Canvas Attributed To Alessandro Casolani"
The oil painting on canvas shows us "The Holy Family and the Adoration of the Magi", a work certainly requested by a prestigious Tuscan client in the second half of the 16th century. The bright colors and the shaded brushstroke give the painting an emotional intertwining of tenderness and elegance illustrated above all by the physiognomy of the figures characterized by pleasantly soft faces and devout looks. The stylistic characteristics of the painting suggest the Sienese origin of the author and the attribution to Alessandro Casolani (Casole d'Elsa, 1552 - Siena, 1607), an artist trained with Arcangelo Salimbeni and on the examples of Cristofano Roncalli. Around 1578, the artist moved to Rome to study the works of the city's most important artists. Yet it was in Siena that the artist received the most prestigious commissions, including two Adoration of the Shepherds for the Church of the Servants and one for the DuomO. The painter also worked in Genoa, Naples, Pisa and Pavia, where he painted the frescoes of the dome of the Charterhouse and the vault of the sacristy.
