"Precious Box"
Charming box or casket in the shape of a basket with two handles and lid from the second half of the 19th century in the Louis XV style. The oblong body of the casket is curved on its four sides and inlaid; on the two long facades darker fleur-de-lis and foliage cartouches. The lid opening with a brass hinge is also decorated with beautiful cartouches inlaid with precious wood (rosewood and rosewood) and brass fillets, with a coat of arms in its center surrounded by foliage in brass marquetry (this coat of arms probably intended to receive the initials of its future and lucky owner...). Very nicely decorated brass closure, rope-shaped system that clips perfectly. Small deformations on the edges of the lid, they are minimal and do not prevent the good closing of this one. Interior divided into two parts and covered with a speckled maple veneer in very good condition. The walnut veneer partition could be brought back. Very small defects due to the time of the marquetry (see photos) that I qualify as negligible. Two long swivel handles complete this charming object. A remarkable work of cabinetmaking in short, because the shape of the object accentuates the technical difficulty; for this unusual object varnished with the original pad. Note: under the base an oval stamp in ink has been affixed, it is possible to distinguish: HONORABLE MENTION. I cannot decipher the sequence written on this stamp. Nevertheless, this additional indication undoubtedly adds added value to the object. Delivery: €10 for metropolitan France.
