"Georges A. De Pogedaieff (1897-1971) Luberon Landscape"
Oil painting on canvas from the mid-twentieth century signed Georges A.de Pogedaieff (Georges Anatolevitch de Pogedaieff 1897 -1871 with signed proof on the original label of the artist's workshop on the back on the frame). Landscape of the presumed Lubéron located in Méherbes presenting the hamlet in spring. Montparnasse style period frame, good general condition, dimensions: 70 cm X 60 cm / canvas frame 46 cm X 38 cm. Georges de Pogedaieff studied at the School of Fine Arts in Moscow under the direction of Zouglinsky. He emigrated to Europe shortly after the October Revolution and then exhibited in Berlin, Vienna, Bucharest and Paris. In the 1920s, he produced sets and costumes for Cyrano de Bergerac, Le Prince Igor and La Chauve-Souris (opera by Johann Strauss) and also illustrated works by Dostoyev and Chekhov. He made many portraits of famous people as well as sets and costumes for theaters. Based in Paris, the artist comes to Provence to paint luminous landscapes.
