The painting representing the scene deals with the biblical parable of Lazarus and the supper of the rich Dives and intends to illustrate, as in other parables, mercy and pity towards the poor but is also of particular importance for its references to the life after the death.
The pictorial sphere is that of the flourishing Bassano school, the one that operates at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries and revolves around the figures of Leandro and Francesco Da Ponte.
