Offering Dish - Circa 1500 Nuremberg
This large offering dish in gilded brass was made in Nuremberg around 1500. The entire ornament of the umbilicus radiates symmetrically around a central point. In relief, the decor of rotating gadroons is surrounded by a frieze of inscriptions in Gothic letters and fleur-de-lys on the rim. It is possible to find offering dishes very similar to ours in the work of Hermann P. Lockner, Messings, published in 1982. (pp. 51).
