inspired by louis XV style, this sideboard was designed with all the decorative ornaments specific to the regional Louis XV style in Charente.
there are shells, volutes and fretted crosspieces as well as beautiful shell feet.
But the uprights with canted sides indicate a work from the beginning of the 19th century.
the low sideboard opens with two wide doors with a fixed frame in the center and above two large drawers fitted with very wide dovetails.
we find in the panels of the doors and in the faces of the drawers the use of a burl of walnut in solid and not in veneer!
This sometimes happened with a decorative intention in the same way as Bressan furniture.
but the two should not be confused, here we are in Charentes and the entire structure of the furniture is in solid cherry and not in walnut as in Bresse.
moreover the result is much more blond and warm, this dresser has a very beautiful patina of blond walnut, very singing and clear in its patina.
we find ornamental motifs specific to the Charentes with inlays of thick veneers of flowered baskets in the high and low crosspieces and the dormans of the low sideboard is decorated with a marquetry of bottomless cubes.
the shell feet are very nicely carved, very bold and we find these winding patterns in the crosspieces.
the dresser part is nicely worked with its original cornice and two sockets balancing the whole.
all fittings are original and the locks work. the flat sides are dabs.
No attack by xylophagous worms, these insects do not attack cherry trees in general. preventive treatment done with xylophene in the workshop and small restorations for use and maintenance.
a very beautiful regional piece of furniture, very decorative, it has been a long time since I had encountered such a beautiful dresser buffet. dimensions: 146 cm at the widest, depth 67 cm and low buffet height 102 cm and total height 221 cm.
