He was a painter, draftsman, pastellist, gouachist and sculptor. Largely self-taught. Received training at the Academy of Aalst and at the Postma Institute in Amsterdam. Traveled to Asia, South America, West Africa and immersed himself in the individuality and cultural background of primitive peoples. Paints exotic and native landscapes, orchards, panoramas.
