A silver gilt mounted ruby glass cup.
The mounts by Tobias Baur, Augsburg, c.1705-1709.
Measures 10.5cm in diameter.
Provenance: Edmond (1896-1988) and Jeanne (1906-2000) Levy-Ditisheim, Basel.
Tobias Baur specialized in mounted work; examples in various materials, including glass, enamel, hardstone and porcelain have been recorded. He was born about 1660, the son of Matthäus Baur I, and died in 1735. Silver-gilt mounted ruby glass items by this goldsmith are recorded by Dr. Seling in the Hermitage and Rudolf Oetker Collections, St. Petersburg and Bielefeld.
