"Silver Damaskine "bidri" Box"
Casket in iron alloy damascened with silver called Bidri, 18.8 X 4.7 X 13.4 cm, circa 1930. A light cleaning will have sufficed for this charming casket with its slightly domed lid and decoration of carnations regains its shine. Well, that makes it more difficult to photograph, the silver niellos having a specular sheen, but you can imagine the contrast between the blackened iron and the polished silver. Original from the famous Bidar workshops in India, the workmanship is exceptional in the fitting of the lid and the tightness perfectly, which makes me think that its destination was perhaps to contain cigarettes for the officers of the United Kingdom stationed in India.
