Thierry Michelet (1958-2013) V: "Scriptures", painting on canvas approximately 200 X 200 cm. Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux, he is part of a neo-expressionist movement that finds echoes all over Europe: Baselitz, Fetting, Salomé or Penck in Germany, Clemente or Chia in Italy, Garouste or Blais in France or Barcelo in Spain among many others, each finding a different way of expression, but with an obvious kinship, a visceral painting, strong, often colorful and fast, which does not mean sloppy! He had many exhibitions both in France and abroad with works acquired by museums. The works that I present to you today were found there more than 30 years ago at the Foire des Quinquonces: I had come across those displayed on the front of two stacks and after a brief negotiation, I bought the set before realizing that they did not fit in my Never mind, the salesman brought them to me at the station and I sent them to my parents by Sernam. The problem being the difficulty of exposure, I abandoned them until these days when I rented a big truck to repatriate them and photograph them before putting them on the Net… The works date from the early 80s, are more or less square from 186 to 216 cm on each side, simple sheets for some, panels for others, mounted on DIY frames with raw cleats.
