Couple of soup tureens
Porcelain, cm diameter 23, cm alt 18
The soup tureens are produced by the manufacture of the famous Parisian potter Jacob Petit (Paris 1796-1868). Jacob Petit, after having learned drawing as an autodidact, entered, as a student, the studio of the painter Antoine Jaen Gros, disciple of Jacques-Louis David, but, attracted by porcelain, he decided to join, in 1822, the Manufacture of Sevres. Passionate about decorative arts, he made several trips to France and Europe (to Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands and England) to deepen his knowledge and perfect his technique. Back in France, he published in 1830-1831 a Collection of interior decorations, including everything concerning furnishings, which was a great success. He succeeded in time in opening his own factory in Fontainbleau, which employed 80 workers and a prestigious workshop and workshop in Paris, at 26 rue du Bonsy. His artistic production consists mainly of decorative objects such as plates, vases, teapots, perfume bottles, but also lights and even fireplaces. The porcelain responds to the imaginative taste of the manufacturer, in love with bright colors and eclectic taste. Petita likes to combine decorative repertoires from all historical periods, past and present, and from all geographical regions, with particular attention to the Orient. The attention of the artist focuses above all on the chromatic rendering of his porcelains where, without hesitation, he associates contrasting colors and accesses to more opaque surfaces. In these two small tureens we find an elegant and delicate floral motif made using a palette of bright colors, typical of the production of Jacob Petit, surrounded by golden inserts.
