Object description :

"Alexander 1st, Tsar In Paris. Reference Engraving. 1816"
A watercolor engraving, but we could also say: a watercolor on engraving lines, so superb is the quality of the painting. The portrait would be by Horace Vernet, (signed: V...del), and the engraver is Charles François Gabriel Levachez. The arrival of the handsome Blue Tsar in Paris, 1815, was an extraordinary media event, and a great support for the restoration ofKings. Boilly painted: the triumph of Alexander.
Our precious, large engraving has its place in most museums but is only found in small quantities now.
Glued assembly in original bowl, large antique sculpted-gilt recut wooden framing, medium condition, no glass. Condition of discovery, frame to be taken back, small stains, slight yellowing.
Frame: 69cm x 55cm, engraving: 48cm x 36.5cm.
Alexander Iᵉʳ of Russia or Alexander Pavlovich Romanov, born December 12, 1777 in Saint Petersburg and died November 19, 1825 in Taganrog, son of Paul Iᵉʳ and Sophie of Württemberg, was Emperor of Russia from March 23, 1801 until his death as well as Grand Duke of Finland and King of Poland.
