"High Pair Of Nubians In Polychrome And Gilded Wood With Double Trays 19th Century Venice 66.1inch"
Large pair of Nubians smiling and with jovial face, in polychrome wood, each holding two trays decorated with acanthus leaves and resting on a polygonal base with a gilded outline. Arabesques and various floral decorations make up the fabric of their clothes with an elegant movement of drapery that can be found at the level of the turbans, all supported by highlights of gilded paint. Characteristic work of the Venetian tradition since the 17th century, which consists in sculpting shimmering characters, of African inspiration, for the aristocrats and rich bourgeois of the City of the Doges who decorated their interiors with this furniture with accents of the Orient reminiscent of the heyday of the serene Republic of Venice which maintained privileged commercial ties, particularly with Egypt and Nubia.
