Agate intaglio pendant with Cupid. Italian, early 17th century & later.
An agate intaglio pendant depicting Cupid bearing a flaming torch.

The fragmentary intaglio is carved with a blazing sun above a figure of Cupid bearing the flaming torch, representing burning passion.

The intaglio is Italian, early 17th century.

Mounted in a modern, high carat gold pendant setting with a cabochon sapphire and cultured pearl drop.

The intaglio measures 3.2 x 2.7cm, the pendant measures 6.3cm high including cultured pearl drop.

The last image shows a similar intaglio of the same date in the collection of the Museo degli Argenti, Pitti Palace, Florence; Inv. Gemme del 1921, n. 1758, Photo: GPSSPMF 297417.
