The sculpture depicts Guanyin (Sanskrit: Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva). Guanyin is a bodhisattva who embodies compassion; its name means "to observe the sounds", or to listen to the requests. The goddess is dressed in decorative dresses with floral decorations and a necklace. With her right hand, she makes the gesture "shunya mudra", or "heavenly mudra", which has therapeutic properties. In turn, with her left hand, she makes the "karana mudra" gesture, which is a gesture of warding off demons and evil, helping to eliminate all bad emotions: fear, hatred, depression. The wooden sculpture is covered with a thick polychromy composed of red lacquer, gold glitter and relief decorations. At the back of the sculpture is a box - a reliquary, the preserved polychromy of which indicates that it was never opened. China, Qing dynasty, 17th/18th century.
