This very beautiful Malayer, from Persia, in wool hand-knotted, from the end of the 18th century, see the beginning of the 19th century, presents us with its beautiful colors, but also the pangs of time!!!.
The colors have remained fresh, the carpet is in good general condition except for wear and measures 122 cm wide by 200 cm long.
These carpets are easy to recognize thanks to their typical patterns and format.
The patterns are very variable and there are both medallion rugs and rugs with repetitive patterns.
Among the various motifs, it is the herati which is the most common, decor of our model.
The usual colors are dominated by various shades of indigo blue and madder red, curry yellow...
They are knotted in solid, thick, shiny thread, often dyed with natural dyes and spun by hand.
This yarn gives a resistant surface and a beautiful color palette.
They have in common that they are now woven with cotton warp threads and a weft thread between each row of knots.
The patterns are often geometric, but there are also floral patterns Old rugs (prior to 1920) are often tied on a knotted, twisted wool or cotton warp, unlike today's warps which are made of cotton.
Newer, post-1980 rugs are often made of synthetic colors and lower quality wool than older rugs.
In general, it can be said that Malayer rugs are very good rugs for everyday use.
