Lucien Génin (1894-1953)
French painter of Rouen origin Training at the School of Fine Arts in Rouen then at the School of decorative arts of Paris.
He befriends Elisee Maclet who teaches him the tricks of the trade of painter. In 1919, he lives permanently in Montmartre, he shares an apartment with Maclet then he goes to the wash-house. Very well known for his Parisian views, particularly those of Montmartre, he has a passion for depicting Paris and all its hustle and bustle. He does the same in the South of France with views of Cassis, Nice or Marseille.
He exhibited at the Salon d'Automne in 1930 and in 1932 won the prize of the Art Institute of Chicago. In the mid-1930s, he moved to Saint-Germain-des-près and lived off his gouaches, which sold to merchants in the area.
He ended his life in the district of fine arts in Paris, painting in his room. Health concerns got the better of him in 1954.
A retrospective exhibition was organized at the Galerie de Seine from May 21 to June 4, 1954. He was exhibited in several personal or collective exhibitions, therefore the latest on the painters of Montmartre in 2019 at the alongside Suzanne Valadon, Generally Paul and Maurice Utrillo.
