Object description :

"Paris 1838-1842, Set Of 4 Sterling Silver Pick Skewers ("
Paris 1838-1842, rare set of 4 pick skewers in solid silver by goldsmith Louis-Isidore ANGÉE.

It presents a splendid chiseled decoration of caduceus and Mercury's helmets on a gadrooned ground on two skewers, and dolphins joined around a Poseidontrident on an acanthus ground for the other two skewers.

Hallmarks
Minerve 1er titre (french mark for solid silver 950/1000).
LIA a funerary urn for Louis-Isidore ANGÉE, Parisian goldsmith at 11 place Dauphine from 1834 to 1842.

Dimensions, L.25 and 23 cm.

The "hâtelet" is a decorative skewer used for the presentation of a hot or cold dish, during a Grand Service. It is generally surmounted by a motif related to the dish served, such as a rooster, shellfish, crustacean, fish, hare, wild boar... garnished with edible items such as trussed crayfish, quenelles, kidneys, truffles etc.

The skewers are generally in silver metal, sometimes in filled silver. Chiseled solid silver examples such as ours are very rare, even more by 4.
