A patinated bronze figure of the Apollo Belvedere. After the antique, Rome, 19th century. On a integrally bronze plinth; with a brown patina.
Excellent condition.
Height: 51 cm X Width: 34 cm.

The original marble of the Apollo Belvedere dates to the second century AD and is believed to be a Hadrianic copy of an ancient Greek sculpture. It was rediscovered in central Italy in the late15th century. It was placed in the Vatican in 1511 in the Cortile del Belvedere from which it derives its name.
