French school, early 19th century
Portrait of a hunter, seated, he seems amused by a situation he is witnessing, his finger points to the subject of his amusement and lets the spectator's imagination build the scene.
A bird placed on the table with the bottle of wine and the glass are reminiscent of Dutch still lifes as well as the reflection of a window on the bottle. This expressive portrait is reminiscent of the expressive figures of Jospeh Ducreux (1735-1802).
The frame bears a cartel "Le Garde Chasse"
