These 2 paintings are signed by the Vendéen artist François Brillaud (1846-1916 ): son of grocers, he produced in 1897 a copy of the baptism of Christ after Francesco Albani which he presented to the general council of Vendée and earned him the award of a study pension for fine arts in Paris . There will be Jules Breton and Isidore Pils as teachers.
Under the influence of Jules Breton, he initially painted scenes of peasant life, portraits of his family and local notables. From 1898, sensitive to the public's taste for Art Nouveau, he painted nudes and genre scenes. We also owe him a few still lifes and later scenes of military life in which we find the teaching of Pils. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes between 1877 and 1912
You can see his paintings at the Museum of La Roche sur Yon and at the Museum of Fine Arts in Nantes
