"Lion en Majesté - Médaillon en Bronze Par Eugène Marioton"
This bronze medallion with a beautiful brown patina was made by E. Marioton, it is a bust representation of a lion in majesty, gaze high and mouth open. Signed on the right, the bronze is inserted in a molded oak frame. A small chip in one corner of it. Eugène Marioton (1857-1933) was a French sculptor and medalist. It takes the pupil of Auguste Dumont, Gabriel-Jules Thomas and Jean-Marie Bonnassieux. In 1883, he obtained the 1st prize in the competition of the Free Society of Fine Arts with the marble bas-relief Hero and Léandre, as well as a scholarship of 1,200 francs from the General Council of the Seine intended to help young artists without fortune. . In 1884, he was 1st prize in the chasing contest of Mr. Willemsens. In 1888, he was admitted to compete for the second attempt at the Grand Prix de Rome de sculpture. A travel grant, sculpture and medal section, was awarded to him the same year. He regularly participates in the Salon of the Society of French Artists where he obtains numerous awards and becomes a member of the jury in 1905 in the sculpture section.
