The Harrison family is from Philadelphia, the three sons were all attracted by the career of painter. Thomas Alexander was a student at the School of Decorative Arts of San Francisco from 1877 to 1879, which he left to join the School of Fine Arts of Paris, Gérôme's studio and the Julian Academy. Like many painters of his time, he traveled around Brittany and exhibited at the 1880 Côte de Bretagne. He frequented, among others, Proust, Monet, Rodin... It is to the evening light that he attaches himself, to the sea, to reflections. His work goes straight to the point and very often exudes a deep melancholy. His compositions make him one of the great representatives of American Impressionism.
