Post-Impressionist oil on canvas painting representing a landscape of the heights of Provence, signed lower right E. Gilmont. 20th century. Size without frame 61*50 cm and 73*62 cm with frame (small restoration visible at the back) Edgar Gilmont (Seneffe, 1887 - Cagnes-sur-Mer, 1949) Painter. Training at the Brussels Academy (1920 - 1922) with Richir and Delville. Following a trip, he settled in Cagnes-sur-Mer. He fell under the spell of the School of Paris. Predilection for figures and still lifes. Often exhibits in Paris. Jean Cocteau wrote in introduction to an exhibition in Paris in 1943. "We await with great interest the evolution of the production of this real poet that is Edgar Gilmont, whose purity and sincerity move us deeply." In the press: "he knows how to reduce the vivid colors of his still lifes to a charming harmony." Work at the Museum of Brussels. Collective exhibition in Cagnes-sur-Mer in 2011.
