"Still Life"
Clovis Frédérick TERRAIRE (Marseille 1858 - Lyon 1931) was part of the Ecole Lyonnaise movement and was a member of the 1905 French artists' salon. According to Pierre Cabanne and Gérald Schurr in the dictionary of the little masters of painting, Clovis TERRAIRE "excels to render the misty grayness of the banks of the Saône and the Rhône.... He also makes a specialty of cows in the pasture.... He obtains the Rosa Bohnheur prize at the Salon in 1927

Rare Montparnasse frame in gilded wood.
The scene consists of a copper jug and a sparkling glass which contrasts with the dark background of the painting.
In front of them are a bunch of green grapes, the other black, and two peaches.
The whole rests on a wooden entablature.
Retouching on the back of the canvas, not visible from the front.
