"Shovel Embers Or Couvot, Bronze Or Brass, 18th Century. Court Jester"
Ember or couvot shovel in bronze or brass 18th century Decorated with a head of a court jester. Length: 20cm. The condition of the shovel is very good, just a few stains and a little verdigris to report. Everything is clearly visible in the photos. This shovel was used to fill the couvot, a sort of metal or earthen bucket with a handle in which embers were placed. It was used as a heater for women and street vendors. The pipe-smoking companies placed it in the center of the table and each smoker drew a brand with tweezers to light his pipe.
