"Lucien Victor Delpy, Gouache On Paper Signed, Circa 1930, Port Breton"
Very beautiful gouache on paper representing a Breton port. Signed Lucien-Victor Delpy, this marine work is animated by different scenes of characters in the foreground and background, with a certain dynamism of movement in the treatment, and bright colors that tell the story of Breton lights. The marielouise has some scattered foxing. Lucien-Victor Delpy (1898-1967) was appointed painter of the navy in 1931, and had great success at the salon of French artists which allowed him to integrate the national collections. Coming from a family of painters, he trained at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris in the workshops of Fernand Cormon, Émile Renard and Jean-Pierre Laurens, before setting up his studio in Montparnasse in the years 1920. He represented in particular the landscapes of North Africa, which earned him a certain recognition, and painted all his life landscapes of Brittany, where he died in 1967, in Lorient.
