Object description :

"Lucien-victor Delpy Pair Of Oils Signed On Cardboard Navy Brittany Circa 1930"
Very nice pair of oils on cardboard presenting Breton landscapes, with scenes of typical fishermen. Both works show a great mastery of landscape compositions, with a rare sensitivity in the treatment of colors. The first presents a port scene, with the arrival of fishermen on the quays. On the reverse of the work, the frame presents the name of the Saluden gallery, in Quimper, where the work was exhibited at the time. The second presents the harvesting of goëmons, a traditional practice here with horses. The composition takes up the compositions of 19th century painters who represented agricultural work by relying on a vanishing point which is at the end of the work, highlighting the strength of the work, its path in the space of the landscape, here marine. Lucien-Victor Delpy (1898-1967) was appointed painter of the navy in 1931, and had great success at the salon of French artists which allowed him to integrate the national collections. Coming from a family of painters, he trained at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris in the workshops of Fernand Cormon, Émile Renard and Jean-Pierre Laurens, before setting up his studio in Montparnasse in the years 1920. He represented in particular the landscapes of North Africa, which earned him a certain recognition, and painted all his life landscapes of Brittany, where he died in 1967, in Lorient.
