"Bronze-the Great Jockey-isidore Bonheur-circa 1890"
Among the wide variety of animal sculptures exhibited at the Salon, the most famous is "the Great Jockey" of which the present bronze is a fine example. We see the jockey affectionately patting the collar of his horse. The bronze was first exhibited at the Salon of 1879 under the sole title of "a Jockey". Four years later, Bonheur again exhibited other prints at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1883, and a third time, at the Universal Exhibition of 1889.
