René Gaston-Lagorre (1913-2004) Very beautiful gouache signed lower right representing a gypsy child. In a perfect state. Dimensions at sight: 30 x 20 cm, with frame: 52 x 43 cm René Gaston-Lagorre is a French painter born in New York in 1913 and died in 2004 in Paris. He was a student at the School of Fine Arts in Toulouse, where he obtained the Grand Prix of the city in 1935, then in Paris, where he was also awarded. He exhibited at the Salon d'Automne and that of the Independents from 1954. He had his studio in Paris but stayed each year in this region of Ariège which inspired him many oil paintings or gouache drawings: As figurative painter, his paintings were treated with bright colors with as favorite themes scenes of daily life5 (bear riders, shepherds, hunters), faces and camps of gypsies, landscapes (of Ariège, North Africa, Spain...), characters from novels (Don Quixote, Mowgli...). Towards the end of his career he turned to abstract art on small formats with the Z series, a translation on canvas of the ephemeral (Z comme l' éclair)
