Object description :

"Louis Massin View Of Luynes In Touraine Its Castle And Its Old Houses In 1925 Period Art Déco"
Exhibited at the 1926 Salon d'hiver, this charming oil on wood panel depicts a street in the village of Luynes in Touraine in 1925 with its old houses and its famous feudal castle which stands in the background, overlooking the Valley of the Loire. Dated lower left "1925" and signed lower right by its author "Louis Massin", it is enhanced by its original Art Deco frame in gilded wood. In the center of the frame, its cartridge in gilded brass mentioning the name of the artist and the subject "Luynes". Countersigned and titled by the hand of the artist on the back on which appear the stamp of the color merchant who supplied the panel and probably the frame but also the round stamp of the Salon d'Hiver of 1926 as well as the remains of a label of exhibition, perhaps that of the Salon. To this is added an exhibition number, number 40 in blue. Dimensions: 33 x 23.5 cm painting 37.5 x 28.5 cm frame Very good condition. The painter, Massin Louis Eugène Pierre, born in the 19th century is referenced at BENEZIT. His notice tells us that he was a pupil of Jean - Léon Gérôme, whom he exhibited at the Salon des artistes français as well as at the Salon des Indépendants from 1903 to 1914. From 1907, he became an active member of the Salon committee d'hiver à Paris, a salon which was founded on December 10, 1897 by a group of artists. This professional union of artists, known as the Salon d'hiver, was born in reaction to the split of the National Society of Fine Arts; some artists then found themselves disappointed, feeling they were suffering from a lack of notoriety or visibility. Many other objects to discover in my stand at the antique fairs in which I participate. Follow my gallery to be informed of new products and to know the dates of the next Salons... Any questions?
