Aneroid barograph signed RF Richard Frères Paris, Patented SGDG n. 70802, from the end of the 19th century.In 1876, Jules Richard took over his father's manufacturing business in Paris. In 1882, he went into partnership with his younger brother Max, who took the name Richard Frères. Although the company was dissolved in 1891, the monogram "RF" was retained as the symbol of the company. Towards the end of the 1800s, Richard shifted his interests to the field of photography and photographic tools. His brother also took an interest in photography and film, becoming a partner of Léon Gaumont in founding the famous film company.
The barograph is a measuring instrument that records atmospheric pressure values and deduces the trend to make atmospheric forecasts. The sensitive element which determines atmospheric pressure variations is made up of eight aneroid capsules. The deformation of the capsules, with their contraction or expansion according to pressure changes, is amplified by a system of levers; these variations are then recorded on a diagram sheet using an inked pen.
The barograph is mounted in a mahogany case.
The mechanical drum is equipped with an internal cylinder escapement that allows an 8-day rotation. Key included.
